Your First Investigation in Truthworks

Welcome to Truthworks. Whether you're reviewing your first interview or building a case timeline, this guide walks you through how to use the platform during a real investigation—from start to finish.

1. Start with an Interview

Once you’ve completed an interrogation or interview using a supported device, Truthworks goes to work in the background—no manual uploads needed.

You’ll receive a notification when:

  • The transcript is ready (usually within 1 minute)
  • The summary is available (within 1 hour)
  • Any self-contradictions or suggested questions have been flagged

2. Review the Summary and Key Moments

Open the interview file and you’ll find:

  • A structured summary
  • Event Timeline with key actions and statements
  • A list of auto-detected contradictions
  • Suggested follow-up questions

Need to double-check a moment? Click on the timeline or highlight to jump directly to the video.

3. Use Search to Go Deeper

Want to know more? Open the LASER panel and type a question:

“Where was the victim at 3 am?”
“Show all mentions of a red car.”

Truthworks will respond instantly, showing video, transcript, or image results depending on the query.

4. Add Case Notes or Export Files

  • Download a secure PDF of the interview summary
  • Use in-line notes to flag moments for colleagues
  • Export event timelines or contradiction logs for your report

5. Stay Organized

Truthworks automatically associates your activity with the correct case file.
Each case file stores:

  • All interviews
  • Summaries and timelines
  • Your search history
  • Analyst-generated notes

Final Checklist for First-Time Users

  • Log in and verify your role and jurisdiction
  • Complete your first interview
  • Review the generated materials
  • Run a search
  • Share or export your findings
